John Leech
John Leech (born 1 April 1971) is the Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Manchester Withington. He was elected at the 2005 general election, defeating The Rt. Hon Keith Bradley, the Labour MP for 18 years, with a swing of 17%. He is the first Liberal or Liberal Democrat to win a Manchester seat since 1929.
John currently lives in Whalley Range with his long term partner Catherine. They do not have children. He is an amateur dramatics enthusiast (Manchester Road Players). His father is a Methodist minister.
John went to Manchester Grammar School, Loreto College (Moss Side) and Brunel University where he studied for a history and politics degree. At university Leech joined the Liberal Democrats.
Before becoming an MP, John worked as a trainee manager for McDonalds and part time at the RAC in Stockport as a call centre insurance claims handler.
